I went to the blog with a sense of tingling anticipation to see what he said. I really, really, really expected something, anything to be said about the forums. The auth api is in mid deployment now and really no reason the forums can't be upgraded soon. Hopefully everyone understands the urgency by now. Strife is leaving the forums and there has still been no announcement of replacements or a transition team yet. The open letter I posted in 3 different places was a perfect opportunity for a linden to come out and set the record straight as to the future of the forums. All there was was a comment saying it is way, way back on the list of things to do. Evidently it is much more important to browse the web through SL. I don't know about the rest of you but html on a prim would be nice but I am not going to do any regular browsing through the SL client, not a priority to me. Rather just create in SL and have Opera open also at same time like I always do.

I of course am still planning on eating waaay too much tomorrow, and enjoying the company of family and freinds, and of course 4 days with NO WORK! WOOT!. But I will still be carrying a small sense of regret in the back of my mind the whole time.

Not to denigrate the other very valid points you make, I must say for me personally, html on a prim is of such high importance that I have virtually ceased scripting in SL until it's available.

I feel no compunction to browse the web within the SL Client. Rather I'm interested in creating significantly more interactive content. I see html on a prim to be more akin to the RL development of the cathode ray tube. I look forward to it replacing the existing SL display technology which is equivalent to the RL "Mechanical digital railway station clocks" we enjoy here in the UK.

I realise I am in a minority in this regard, and agree whole heartedly with the rest of your post :)

No, you misunderstood. HTML on a prim is definitely important. We also need a reliable way for http to reach into SL instead of having to constantly poll. Unfortunately, neither of those were mentioned either.

All Phillip addressed is that they are excited and have a team of people working on "and that is being able to browse the web easily from in-world".

I see - well that's just ludicrous. At least they've managed a level of consistency in their ability to dissapoint. That's something I suppose.

Ooooops, I take it back. Guess the wording could have been better but in the sentence I quoted above "browse the web" is hyperlinked to http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Zero_Linden/Office_Hours/HTML_on_a_Prim_Use_Cases

So, yes, I apologise and this would definitely be a good priority. Still wish they would mention the forum though :(

I now return you to your regulary scheduled program :)

The re-establishment of the forums is of quite some importance to me, but I don't hold out any hope for it at all to be frank. The issues have been pointed out, voted for ad nauseam (92 votes for WEB-156!) the real reason has been teased out by detective work and admitted, and still nothing has happened at all, even if it is now official that it is because there are so many LARGE and SCARY things that need doing that no Linden can spare an afternoon to upload some PHP. I would have been immensely surprised if Philip had mentioned it, to be honest.

I don't think we will get HTML-on-a-stick in the near future either by the way. I'd kill for simply freetype-on-a-prim, that would be a huge step forwards, but apparently that's too simple to implement and not enough fun.
